This is the direct OEM replacement for the AL Bosch 1307329076 (Litronic Zündgerät 4) HID xenon globe igniter — as fitted to a wide range of European vehicles including BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Ford.
The igniter is the small black box with the red socket that attaches directly to the back of the D2S or D2R xenon globe. It generates the high-voltage pulse required to strike the HID arc and ignite the globe. When it fails, your headlight will not ignite at all, or will attempt to start and immediately cut out.
This is a 100% plug-and-play replacement. No modifications, no rewiring, and no coding required — it connects directly to your existing ballast wiring and globe.
1 x Igniter unit. If both headlights are affected, add 2 to your cart.

Is It the Igniter or the Ballast?
The igniter and ballast work together to start the HID arc. Knowing which one has failed saves you money.
Igniter fault signs: Headlight attempts to ignite but immediately cuts out, or produces a brief flash then goes dark. The ballast is receiving power but the arc cannot be struck.
Ballast fault signs: Headlight does not attempt to start at all. No flash, no flicker — completely dead.
If you are unsure, swap the igniter from the working side to the non-working side. If the fault moves with the igniter, it is the igniter that needs replacing.

The igniter is responsible for generating the high-voltage pulse (up to 25,000 volts) needed to strike the arc inside the HID xenon globe. Once the globe is lit, the ballast takes over to supply a steady operating voltage. If the igniter fails, the globe will not strike.
This specific AL Bosch igniter is designed exclusively for D2S and D2R HID xenon globes. It connects directly to the back of the D2-series globe using the red twist-lock socket. It is not compatible with D1S or D3S globes, which have their igniters built directly into the base of the globe.
If your headlight tries to turn on but immediately cuts out, or produces a brief flash before going dark, it is usually an igniter fault (the ballast is sending power, but the igniter cannot sustain the strike). If the headlight is completely dead with no attempt to start, it is typically a ballast fault. Swapping parts from the working side is the best way to confirm.
No. The igniter is a "dumb" component that simply passes voltage from the ballast to the globe. It does not contain any computer modules or require any coding, programming, or dealer setup after installation. It is completely plug-and-play.
No, this listing is for the igniter unit only. The ballast is a separate component mounted underneath or on the back of the headlight assembly. If you require the matching AL Bosch ballast, it is sold separately.
